HOMESTAY EXCHANGE PROGRAM IN SPAIN
Teach English to your host family in Spain!
Homestays with host families in Spain
Do you want to experience the lifestyle of a local family anywhere in Spain?
How to apply? Preferably via WhatsApp (+34630138129) or alternatively via e-mail to [email protected]. Please ATTACH RÉSUMÉ and two pictures and a 40-second video introducing yourself in English to a host family. Check our Instagram account for ideas regarding your video @homestaysinspain
Families in Madrid, and elsewhere in Spain, offer full board (free meals and accommodation) with your own room in the family's home.
This offer mostly applies to English speakers from the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. ALSO open to non-Natives of English if they have a flawless accent. PLEASE DO NOT apply if you cannot enter the Schengen-EU area as a tourist without a visa.
Most people who take advantage of this are TYPICALLY UNDER 30 years old. This is usually what families REQUEST.
Host families can't wait to have English Speakers over so they can practice English at home!
In exchange all you need to do is engage in conversational English for TWO hours every evening with the host family, Monday to Thursday. You can do your own thing during the day and Friday to Sunday!
Your deal is making sure the family engages in English for TWO hours per night Mon-Thurs, and for this you are getting full board and free accommodation with the family. You may ONLY speak in English at home with the family. If there is a parent who does not speak English then no problem practicing your Spanish. But when the children are present, it is English ONLY at all times.
It is very important also to mention that you will be staying with A LOCAL FAMILY, which means you are expected to engage with them, to immerse, to participate, to show commitment, please make sure you NEVER make the family feel like you are staying in a hotel or in a hostel. Please DO NOT stay in your room for hours! You can be at the living room instead. Please ask them questions, please say good morning, good night, etc. This is key to the success of your homestay!
Also, please be mindful as to how often you go out at night, you are staying with a host family where there are young kids, so going out at night during the week should be limited. You should go out more towards the weekend. If this is not your best fit, perhaps you will be better in a hotel :-)
Failure to meet with the guest conditions mentioned above can result in the homestay being terminated by the host family.
This is your chance to immerse yourself in Spanish culture!
Important:
This is NOT a job we are offering, but a chance to live in Spain for a few weeks (at least 4 weeks) or months and enjoy the Spanish lifestyle at its fullest!
This is an offer of accommodation with wonderful families who really can't wait to practice English at home, with you.
Living with a Spanish family means you will be welcome into a comfortable home. You won’t have to worry about finding a room in a student apartment or buying blankets and towels. You will be a guest of someone who really wants to share their home with you!
This is a great option for those who may not be ready for complete independence and who may be prone to homesickness.
As we previously mentioned, the Homestay gives an amazing opportunity to get an inside look at a typical Spanish family home. You will not only get to experience the quirks of a typical Spanish apartment complex or house compound but you’ll get to experience the apartment/house and its neighbourhood through your host family. You’ll spend your meals with them, watch their favourite TV series, and whatever else the family likes to do. This is something that you would never see if you just lived in a student residence or in a student apartment.
Duties: You are responsible to keep your own room tidy at all times. This way if there is a maid in the home they can easily clean up. There is NO eating in the room. Eating should be carried out in the dining room or kitchen. You may NOT bring strangers home at any time. Doing so is a cause to be expelled.
Outside: You can earn some money by privately tutoring English outside the family, take Spanish lessons, visit the city or travel during the weekends -- this is totally up to you. IF you can LEGALLY work in Europe you can also find a job.
If you are interested or know someone who might be, please send us your Résumé/CV and we will contact you for an interview over videocall with the host family.
Before you commit, we will put you in touch with the family (via videocall) so that you can find out more about them, making sure it is a good match.
We will also NEED a Background Check. See how to get one here:

References and testimonials upon request.
Homestays are a minimum of 4-5 weeks, and typically last for up to 3 months (Length is flexible) or sometimes even longer.
The registration fee is Euro350. This registration fee is payable ONLY once you have met the Spanish family (via videocall or in person) and you have all their details in terms of location, address, phone and e-mail. Payment is carried out ONLY once the videocall has taken place if both parties have agreed it has been a good match. The 350-euro fee covers up to 3 months only. If your homestay is longer another fee of 350 euros will be charged once another period of 3 months begins.
Plane Ticket to or within Spain is NOT included. You must pay for your own plane ticket to Spain.
Summarizing, the process is as follows:
1. We need your Résumé/CV, 3 pictures and period of the year you would like to come.
2. We need to schedule a videocall interview.
3. After the videocall we will suggest an available family to you (their location, photos, time of the year and period).
4. If you like the family and their location, we shall schedule a videocall with them.
5. If both parties think it is a good match it is a go!
6. Payment to Homestays In Spain (via PayPal or Venmo or bank transfer) will be carried out WITHIN 24 HOURS after the videocall with the family (before payment you will also have been provided with their phone, address and photos).
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
